With so many options available, picking a puppy harness can seem daunting.

Not to worry!

I’ve laid out what to look for in a harness, where to buy it, how to find the right size, and more.

The main thing to remember is that the harness you choose is a training tool.

You can find something fashionable and fun, but ultimately, a high-quality collar made for training purposes will serve you well in the long run.

Best Harness For Puppy Training

Best Dog Harness To Stop Pulling

Any harness that doesn’t choke or tug on the puppy in an uncomfortable way should suffice.

You want to make sure it fits properly and is made out of quality materials so your puppy doesn’t slip out.

Any harnesses listed below would be wonderful and safe choices for walking your puppy, so long as you order the correct size.

The real trick to getting your puppy to stop pulling during walks is proper training. Read my full guide on leash training your pup.

Are Harnesses Good For Training?

Yes! Collars pull at the neck and are ineffective because there are only 2 options when your puppy pulls:

  1. They’re going to get injured from tugging on a tight collar
  2. They’re going to escape from a loose collar

Harnesses are safe, and much more comfortable.

Can I Walk a 12-Week-Old Puppy?

Yes! Of course, you can walk your 12-week-old puppy.

They do tend to tire out quickly since they’re still so little.

Fifteen minutes is about the max time you’d want to walk a 12-week-old puppy.

It’s actually very important for your puppy’s socialization to go on walks and have a variety of positive experiences at that age.

Picking Out A Puppy Harness – What To Look For

Aside from affordability and finding something that physically fits your dog’s breed, here are the top things to look for when picking out a puppy harness:

  • Adjustable: to accommodate your growing puppy. Remember that you should be able to fit 2 fingers between the harness and the puppy’s body.
  • Chew-resistant: so it lasts longer than a couple of weeks. We all know puppies love to chew things up, especially a strange new harness.
  • Quality material: so it lasts. There are reflective harnesses for late-night walkers, cute pink harnesses for the sassy puppies, and a number of other options out there.
