5 Things To Know About Frug Puppies

What drew us to the Frug breed was my husband’s want for a French Bulldog, and my want for a Pug – but neither of us willing to concede our wishes.

We knew the right breed was out there for us, and we were determined to do tons of research finding the right now before committing ourselves.

Adopting a dog is likely a 15-year commitment and was one we didn’t take lightly.

After much research, we eventually came across the French Bulldog Pug mix breed, known as the Frug or Frenchie Pug.

Bred to reduce the pug’s known breathing problems, the frug encompasses the two breed’s personalities and energy levels into a dog that can adequately breathe thanks to a slightly elongated snout (in comparison to the Pug).

They can either have a curly tail like the Pug or a short, stubby one like the French Bulldog.

In this post, we’ll be sharing some of the top facts we wish we knew about frug puppies before adopting…

Not that any of these would have changed our mind, but they’re useful to know so you’re prepared and ready to train your pup properly from day 1.

They Like To Chew

If you’re considering adopting a frug puppy, our biggest piece of advice to you is to be sure you have plenty of safe chew toys on hand.

Frug puppies aren’t what we would consider to be aggressive chewers, but they are highly active chewers.

And if let to their own devices, they will chew on anything they can get their teeth on including…

  • cables and chargers
  • shoes
  • toys
  • clothes
  • their bedding
  • blankets
  • table and chair legs

I write this not to scare you away from this amazing breed, but to be totally transparent.

It’s important to take the time to let them know and understand what is theirs to chew and what isn’t.

Having plenty of toys on hand will help lessen any unwanted chewing behaviors.

Here are some of our favorite chew toys for Frugs.

Be mindful of things on the floor for your new pup.

Frug Puppies Can Be Stubborn

Frug puppies can be a little stubborn when it comes to listening or potty training.

It isn’t impossible to train a frug as they love to please their owners, but consistency and patience really pay off.

They Are Full Of Energy And Personality

Ready to romp and play, frug puppies love to run.

They get a case of the ‘zoomies’ every now and again (where they run really fast from room to room), and are a joy to watch and play with.

They are also full of personality!

Frug Puppies Are Great With Children

If you are considering adopting a Frenchie pug puppy for your family, you’re considering an amazing breed – they are great with children!

It’s always advised to inquire with your breeder on how well socialized the puppies from the litter you’re adopting from are, as early socialization is key to making a dog more family-friendly.

It’s Better To Adopt Only One From A Litter

Well-known by Frenchie pug owners, it’s best to avoid adopting more than one frug from a litter.

Behavioral problems and frequent issues between the pups have been known to occur when adopting more than one from the same litter.

If your family has the room and desire to adopt more than one frug puppy, try waiting at least a year in between for the best behavioral outcome for your household (and sanity), as well as the overall benefit for your pups.

Our Thoughts on Frug Puppies

As a Frug owner, we may be a little biased…

But there hasn’t been one frug puppy we’ve met that hasn’t been absolutely adorable, sweet, and worthy of adoption!

Frugs are so fun and full of life, while still being total snuggle bugs on the couch.
